avatarIn reply to guests 2973, 1708, and 1028.

According to both the Statista Research Department  (Nov. 2023) and Gallup (March 3, 2022), the percentage of the United States population identifying as LGBTQ+ is 7%. I would hypothesize that this is likely to be an underestimate, due to  the number of people who would not identify as LGBTQ+ and thus leave themselves vulnerable to the attitudes of those who would do them harm on some level; but we'll use 7% as a baseline for the purposes of this comment.

The estimated population of the United States of America was 340,766,479 as of Sunday, December 3, 2023, based on Worldometer elaboration of the latest United Nations data (https://www.worldometers[dot]info/world-population/us-population/). This represents approximately 23,853,653; almost 24 million individuals with the same rights to representation, and similar hopes and aspirations for their lives as everyone else.

avatarPretty much ALL publicly released "statistics" are manipulated for political or social-engineering purposes. I personally worked in local politics for years collating vast quantities of data to produce spreadsheets, graphs, reports, etc that can be played with to produce whatever outcome is desired. "Hard data"? NO.

avatarI work in data collection and scientific analysis myself, I am what would be termed a "primary researcher". Statista is a reputable source, and in this case, the data are mirrored by other independent research groups (Gallup just being one); on this occasion, hard data, yes.

avatar@LiberalLesbo - of course you were! :_:-) Was just waiting for you to jump in with that & right on cue there it was LOL! Can't let someone critique you who's "less qualified"! It's pretty much common knowledge that statistics are manipulated. Gallup reputable? Extremely laughable! Hard data? I'm with 5062 - a HARD NO!!

avatar1788, Gallup is only one of the sources that confirm the Statista data (the source I said is reliable). The U.S. Census Bureau (2021, Nov. 04) is another, estimating the LGBTQ+ population of the U.S. at 7.7%. Or are you suggesting that any data source that disagrees with you is conspiratorial? Harder yes :_:-)

avatarA fourth (hard data) source, confirming all of the others can also be found at the Pew Research Council (https://www[dot]pewresearch[dot]org/short-reads/2023/06/23/5-key-findings-about-lgbtq-americans/). avatarThank you TGX for "Eileen", and didn't read the comments above but appreciate the hard work for everyone in getting the movie out to us!:) Great movie!

I guess  having watched Silent Night and then Eileen they are so very different, that they are very contrasted, certainly!:)

Having said that, I'll just rate the movie...:)

Thank you very much to the encoders in getting it out to us, and even in the CAM version it was excellent as always, so A/V=10/10...5 stars

As far as the movie went, you really have to understand that we are going back to the '60's,  that's like watching the Shawshank Redemption and thinking we are in the present time! NOT! Once I got off the Silent Night kick and realized we were in the '60's, and the plot developed along with the characters, it became apparent what the  "theme" of the story was going to be, and thought the two main characters did do an excellent role in portraying of what the plot entailed. I did find it to be entertaining although it's not an action packed John Woo movie. So without spoiling the movie, the movie went by quickly and what I did like the best was it didn't take 3 hours to get to the main plot or for some long drawn out character development! "Eileen", takes you to the main story and you feel like it's just about over before you know it! I did want a little more of the movie, perhaps another 15 minutes of suspense, but that's really not the overall theme of the movie, nor what they really want you to get out of it, yet it's highly a good and very engrossing movie! I highly enjoyed it, and remember when watching it, not to judge it when you do put yourself back in another time frame for certain things that go on during the movie!:) Think as you watch the first 15-30 minutes of it, you'll find yourself "thinking your way through it" as I did  and really found it to be a great movie and not just good!  M=7.0-7.5

avatarIt was the balance between powers (east and west) that prevented a military showdown, which we know as the Cold War. On the other side of the iron curtain they were told THEY were the number one. Neither they, nor the US was. Read a book once in a while or follow the news.

avatarLet's say that LGBTQ+ form 1% or even less. What matters to me is that we get a good story and good acting and hopefully a movie that doesn't last 3 hours. Although some movies need that kind of time and are better for it - The Godfather, Lawrence of Arabia, etc.

avatarIf Hollywood reflected real life there would be less than 1 movie per 100 featuring homosexual relationships. The fact that it's almost the opposite these days shows you what Hollywood's REAL role in society is given the influence that crafted visual media has on so many supposedly intelligent minds! Hate the comment all you want but facts speak for themselves!

avatarI believe the actual ratio is 1 in 10 (depending on how you count non-binary/bisexual people). It's certainly a LOT more than 1 in 100 but people tend to mix in circles where it is more prevalent or less, so they do/don't see it.
by Guest-1028
    on 2023-12-03 08:52:21
avatar@Guest-1708 Nope. Talk it up all you want but that's simply not true for all countries except maybe in Israel - I read in their own media that they have the highest number of homosexuals per capita by far. Wishful believing on your own personal behalf does not equate to actual fact.

avatarYeah, but not all straight people have a story worthwhile telling, whereas most lgbtqia+ DO have a story, if only how they are ignored, shunned, mistreated, discriminated by intolerants. And, guess what, movie making is about story telling, not matching statistics.

avatarAnd if it were "a steaming pile", why can;t you just ignore these movies and move one? Why do you HAVE to comment on movies you will not watch anyhow? Why do you NEED to push your agenda onto people who will not and can not turn "un-gay" even if they wanted to? Are we not allowed to be entertained?
by Guest-2577
    on 2023-12-04 16:57:34
avatarAlso Guest-2973 your math is bad. Even if your 1/100 ratio was correct, that means that for every 100 cast members, there should be 1 LGTBQ+ character. if the Lesbo’s stat’s are right, that’s about 1 in 12 cast members. And her info’ is rarely wrong.
