Help with Seeding

Can anyone suggest how to go about seeding in order to keep torrents alive?

First of all, I am trying to determine the best way to know the health of a completed torrent. I hope to make as many of my completed torrents active as possible, but I desire to 'de-activate' the 'healthy' ones. It Is my understanding number of other 'seeders' out there is the second number indicated in the 'Seeds' column. For example '0 (2)'. Currently I am making any torrent that has '0 (2)' and less active.

Well, that method was working fine until the recent update. Not sure what changed, but now, my internet has come to a screeching halt, so I have to really pick and choose torrents to seed. I am not sure why that is happening. It may be because too many torrent are actually active, but I've had over 100 active before and it wasn't an issue. I am not really trying to fix this new issue, but rather get good settings (and not just 'unlimited' as they are set now).

So perhaps I am going about this all wrong... My end goal is to keep torrents alive. There are certain torrents (by the GRYM (Vonricht) trio) that make it a point to include the extras. Between the three of these posters, there are over 2500 torrents! Many of them have the extras (which I highly value), but I understand that many do not. As such, seeders are low. Sometimes non-existent! It is my desire to help others who want these torrents, but my question is 'How do I prioritize them?' Or can I set it so that once a torrent has seeded twice it pauses? Also, I cannot have only 100 active torrents because there are about 200 torrent s that are still 'downloading'. They may or may not ever actually complete. As I am typing this, a thought occurred to me... I do have the option of moving the incomplete torrents to run on another box, so having more than one box is an option.

Anyway, thank you to anyone who can help me with this dilemma!

You really need to get a seedbox
I have 2
one is seeding 350 of my torrents and the other is seeding 834 of my torrents

Hmmm... Like I said, I am open to ideas, but I cannot realistically see putting 2500 torrents on a seed box. Storage alone would cost a ton! Plus, I've already invested in the hard drives, so although it's a good idea, I don't see how this would solve my problem.

Is there a way I can allow more torrents, but not have so many connections perhaps? Not sure if the unlimited connections is causing the internet to be slow elsewhere. Is there a tool that tests recommended connections? All I've seen is the recommended active torrents - which is usually less than what is in my download queue already, so even though they are not actively downloading, they are taking up a spot.

Deep61 is right, you need a seedbox, I also have 4 of them, altho i'm might be getting rid of 1 of them, the number of torrents doesn't matter on a seedbox, it's just the space it takes, how many TB's do you have to seed?

By the way, you can't be expected to seed everything forever :_:D

How many TB? Ummm... A few tens of TB. I have this problem of being a competitionist, so all of GRYM torrents alone are tens of TB. So to show my appreciation of GRYM's work, as well as Legacy's and Empire's, I like to try to keep them alive as possible, so I DON'T want to seed something like the Star Wars stuff, cuz it's probably well seeded, but I'd rather seed the stuff like 'The Doorman 2020' that has barely one seed. Thus the desire to learn what is healthy, so I can de-activate them.

True... I guess I don't see it as 'being expected to', but I just like to help if I can...

Been doing more research on the connections and it's just sooo confusing! Can't seem to find consistent answers!

I understand, if you have tens of TB's then a seedbox is too expensive, unless your seedbox company allows you to add extra HDDs to your dedi server and even then they charge

the best thing I can suggest is to use an old PC and turn it into a server, put as much space as u need, do a speed test of your internet and limit your torrent upload to 50% of whatever your result is

I think BiglyBT and qBittorrent and Deluge have functions to only seed a few at a time, but randomly checks all torrents to see if anyones trying to download, this way your PC won't be overloaded. Also, check the torrents are not trying to connect to dead trackers as that also causes problems

Sounds good. Thank you!

Wow! Really? I use qBittorrent and am unfamiliar with this feature. Looking over the settings I found 'Do not count slow torrents in these limits'. So I guess I can set a Max active DL and UL and then check the 'Do not count...' box. I'll try that.

Seems that is doing the job! I had to play with the numbers a bit, but it looks like I found the sweet spot. Contrary to what I thought would happen by allowing hundreds for the upload, only about 35 are active at a time. I'll keep an eye on them and de-activate those I find have a high seed count. Most importantly, the internet speed elsewhere is much better!

Thanks for all your help!
