On the other, publishers hide scientific work away behind paywalls, because they simply "exploit academic works, to sustain a monopoly that restricts access to information in favor of profit." And the general public don't know how to access the work, can't afford the ridiculous costs, and therefore cannot be bothered. And we wonder why the public are lacking trust in science and scientists. You really can't eat your cake and still have it too.
