Ari Melber breaks down how Mueller’s prosecutors are no longer bound to any lighter sentence meaning Manafort could now face a much heavier jail sentence. Mueller alleges Manafort lied about ongoing contacts with Russian political operative, Konstantin Kilimnik, someone who is allegedly linked to Russian intelligence. Manafort and his associate, Rick Gates, reportedly met with Kilimnik at a private cigar room in New York that ended with the three men leaving from separate doors. Former Federal Prosecutor Paul Butler tells Ari Melber Gates may have given Mueller what he needed to prove that Manafort was lying. In a special report, MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent, Ari Melber, examines President Trump’s impact on the courts and how Republican Senator Susan Collins has been a key ally for Trump’s Supreme Court picks. Melber breaks down how Senator Collins claims to be a “pro-choice moderate” who supports Roe vs. Wade, but has helped ensure Trump was able to put Brett Kavanaugh, a Justice who was widely expected to be a vote against abortion and abortion access, on the Supreme Court. In a recent Supreme Court ruling, Kavanaugh was one of four Justices who voted to limit a key abortion protection. Melber notes that despite her pro-choice public position, Senator Collins has voted to confirm three of these Justices for the Supreme Court. President Trump says he is “unhappy” about the budget deal that Republicans have reached with Nancy Pelosi, as he may be on the verge of caving on border wall funding once again. Republicans in Congress are bluntly telling him to sign this new border bill, even though the lack of money for a wall has drawn conservative pushback.
