Recent rising car prices that dealers are blaming on shortage of material and microchip, this is a text from the dealer.

Ordered a new car last year, paid a deposit, agreed to everything, what's on it, the final price, everything in writing.

The new Z06 Corvette that is not out until this year.

Yesterday I get this text.

They can't force anyone to donate $50,000 to charity. I bet the charity don't even exist and the dealer will pocket the $50,000.

Also I think IRS rules say you can't have more than $14,000 charity donation on your tax return for single filers and $29.000 for joint filers..

I am also paying for higher rent, food, gasoline, etc.

I have been working since I was barely 14 and have saved my money, invested most of it, bought property and stocks.

When my friends who were same age as I was when I was 18-22 were out partying every day and spending every paycheck and buying flashy new cars until they have barely anything left to cover rent on the 1st and had to borrow $ , I was investing my money.

I had my own businesses at 23 just out of college, a business that grew to 14 locations in less than 4 years while at the same time I was working as a licensed Realtor working 14 -16 hours a day.

Then in the 90's and 2000's, I was running 2 different retail businesses that I owned and working at another one of my business ventures 80 hours a week, even slept in the car and not go home for 3-4 days straight at a time.

In a 11 years period, the only time off I took was when I went to Las Vegas for 3 days on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

For 15 years I lived in the same 300 square feet efficiency apartment with a window AC unit. While everyone was moving out because the area started becoming high crime, I stayed on and refused to move.

The rent there was $800 less than the nice areas people were moving to. It's still a roof over your head with a place to put your head down to sleep and a bathroom with indoor plumbing and hot water.

It's better than living on the street under a freeway overpass.

That is all you need. You don't need  no flashy $ apartment with a $1400-2000 rent. I was paying $350 and in 15 years, because I was such a good long time tenant, they only raised my rent once by $50.

Looks to me like a rip off.
Legally they can't change the price/contract once signed by both parties.
IF it's really from them then they are in breach of the contract.

My advice:

1. Check the emailadress from which it was sent to any known emailadresses that you have from previous correspondence.(that's the fastest way to check if the email is legit as they could've been hacked or if most correspondence went by email your email address could be compromised as well).
2. Either contact them by phone or just pop by to confront them with this email.
3. Get in touch with a lawyer to get more information on this situation and to find out what your rights are.

But as you mention yourself...
It really feels like a huge scam.
As they can't force you to make a donation.

Edited advice......

1. Go to a lawyer.

Quote:

Definition of donation

: the act or an instance of donating: such as
a : the making of a gift especially to a charity or public institution
b : a free contribution : gift
They are ASKING you....you are NOT donating....you are either being scammed or being hit with a hidden surcharge, prolly to cover extra costs THEY now have to pay.

The suspicious wording on the msg sounds like it's an advert(ish) of some sort.....

Quote:

"I just wanted to let you know"
Rather than "Furthermore" or "regarding your recent purchase"

Nobody sends a msg to a customer saying "yeah, you know that car you bought.....we just raised the price $50,000 but you need to pay it "off the books""

You agreed a price and payed a deposit....the car is yours at the specified price WHEN 1st AGREED:_party:_party

EDIT:  The bit about...

Quote:

"A $5,000 REFUNDABLE deposit is due at time of Agreement"
....prolly means this has been sent to every customer to cover corvette against the rise in prices.....you have ALREADY agreed a price etc etc....so this does not apply to you anyhoo:_party:_party

Looking at that, on top of breaching your purchase agreement, it appears they could likely be violating Chevy franchisee/dealership agreements.

My first advice:

Get a lawyer and have them do some research

Go too General Motors corporate w/all documentation (They own Chevy, and they can unleash a pile of shit on them)

In the end get the new Corvette and watch them get forced out for the shady business practices as I have friends who worked for Ford, and dealers with them doing some similar bs got contracts/franchise agreements pulled the very next day

My best advice after all the above : the next time you buy, buy a Shelby :_;):_:-):_B)

Also the fact the there is no name after respectfully tells me its a massive scam.   Bloody scammers can hack everything these days

There is a name after respectfully with the name of the dealership, phone #, address, and email address. I photoshopped it out.
